Employee IRD number is incorrect

IRD numbers

You need an IRD number for any tax related obligations you have or entitlements you get. Common examples of when you need an IRD number include:

  • earning income, for example from a job, benefit or investment
  • opening a bank account
  • joining KiwiSaver
  • applying for Working for Families, child support or a student loan
  • buying, selling or transferring property in New Zealand.

To enter your employees IRD number in Smartly, go to Employee details and enter it under Tax Information. You can enter it in with or without dashes or spaces.

Employee IRD number is incorrect

If an employee has been paid, but their IRD number is incorrect, you just need to enter the correct IRD number in the Bank and Tax tab of their People screen.

Note: When the information goes through to IRD, they will update all previous pays automatically with the correct IRD number for the employee.
