Annual closedown
IMPORTANT: If you have a closedown period and you have employees who do not agree to take leave, please reach out to our Customer Service Team on 0800 10 10 38 to assist with processing pays during closedown periods
Before the closedown:
- Decide whether you will enforce the annual closedown provisions.
- If so, give employees at least 14 days’ notice if the closedown requires them to take annual leave or unpaid time off.
- Confirm with your team that there is no flexibility to keep working or take leave during the closedown.
What not to do:
- Do not process any normal pays for the period that contains the closedown for employees who:
- Are under enforced closedown provisions.
- Does not have enough annual leave entitlement to cover the closedown period.
Please refer to our annual closedown flowchart to determine whether the closedown provisions apply.
Please note: This flowchart is a guide only and is not an official Employment New Zealand resource. It does not cover every situation. If anything is unclear, please contact our Customer Support Team.
