Org Chart
The Org Chart gives you a real-time view of your organisation’s structure based on your manager reporting lines in Smartly, helping you see who reports to whom. It’s most valuable when your manager reporting relationships are kept up to date.
This guide shows you how to access, navigate, and manage your Org Chart in Smartly.
Accessing the Org Chart
How you access the Org Chart depends on your role in Smartly. Follow the steps below to access your company’s Org Chart:
Admins
1. Go to People.
2. Select the Org Chart tab.
Note: If you're also a manager in Smartly, you can access the Org Chart from your Personal Hub. Switch to the Personal view using the Personal/Work toggle to see the Org Chart in your navigation.
Managers
1. Switch to Personal view using the Personal/Work toggle.
2. Select Org Chart from the left-hand navigation.
Employees
1. Select Org Chart from the left-hand navigation.
Permissions and access levels
Access levels in the Org Chart depend on your role:
- HR Admins – Full editing access. They can update and manage reporting structures.
- Everyone else – Read-only access. They can view the Org Chart but cannot make changes.
This ensures HR manages structural updates, while everyone else sees the same accurate, up-to-date information.
Searching and filtering
- Use the search bar to look for People, Positions, or Departments.
- Use the filter dropdown to narrow the view to a specific department.
Exporting the Org Chart
You can export the Org Chart for planning, presentations, or reporting:
1. Apply any filters or search criteria to show exactly what you want to export, or leave it unfiltered to export the entire company.
2. Click the export icon in the top-right corner.
3. Your file will download instantly, containing either the filtered view or the full Org Chart.
Editing the Org Chart (HR Admins Only)
HR Admins can update the Org Chart at any time once in Edit Mode:
1. Toggle Edit Mode on.
2. Drag an employee tile and drop it under the manager they should report to.
3. Changes save instantly and automatically sync with employee profiles, so the employee’s manager is updated in their profile as well.
Note: If an employee doesn’t have a reporting manager, they’ll appear as an orphan node. Any updates made in an employee’s profile will also sync to the Org Chart.
Navigating the Org Chart
Move around the Org Chart to explore different parts of your organisation:
- Zoom in/out to switch between high-level and detailed views.
- Click and drag to move across teams or departments.
This helps you explore large or complex organisations with ease.
