Opening Balances FAQs

1. Why is the Expected termination pay value different from the Termination pay (incl. 8%) under Opening balance calculations?

The Expected termination pay value is the value indicated by your previous payroll provider. The Termination pay (incl. 8%) is calculated based on the data you have provided us. This data includes the employee's earned (entitled) leave, accrued leave, leave taken, and their past 53 weeks of earnings.

If you click on the B Termination pay (incl. 8%) in your Key, you will find an explanaton of the termination pay breakdown.

Your Onboarding consultant can also clarify the termination pay value with you.

2. I have asked to top up my employee's leave balance by 20 hours, why is it showing 19.9988 hours?

Values are saved to the databse in weeks to 4 decimal places, so when converting back to hours there can be small rounding discrepancies.

For example, if your employee works 37.5 hours per week, and you top their leave balance up by 20 hours:

20/37.5 = 0.5333 weeks. 0.5333 weeks is saved into the database.

When you view it in hours, 0.5333weeks X 37.5 hours = 19.9988 hours.

3. I have added in some values (Expected leave balance/Expected termination pay/Top up of leave balance or termination pay), but want to revert back to the original calculations, what should I do?

You can click on the Reset to original calculations button. This will reset the calculations based on the historical leave earnings data imported.

Please note Reset to original to calculations also means any data on the Opening Balances page that had been entered, such as sick leave etc, will be deleted. Please check your employee's opening balances closely before you confirm them.

4. I have clicked "Confirm balances" but I have found a mistake with an employee's leave balance, what should I do?

Contact your Onboarding consultant to discuss the matter. If further changes are required, we may need you to send this to us in writing (i.e. an email) so that we can action any adjustments.
