Bank cut off times

Bank cut off times for processing the pay

ANZ: 8:30pm

ASB: 10:00pm

BNZ: 11:30pm

Westpac: 8:30pm

Pay Early (one of the smaller banks): 6pm. Funds will be debited from your account on Day 1 and arrive in your employees' accounts on Day 3. 

If you miss ANZ’s, BNZ’s, ASB's or Westpac’s cut off times, the payroll will be processed early the next morning.

If you miss one of the smaller banks' cut off times, the payroll will most likely be processed the next day after 6pm. If you need your employees to be paid earlier than that, please call our Customer Support team on 0800 10 10 38 or email helpdesk@smartly.co.nz and they can contact the bank and ask them if they can process it earlier.

7 day payment processing

7 day payment processing is active for eligible banks. 

What does this mean for you?

  • If you bank with ANZ, BNZ or Westpac - you will be able to run a pay any day of the week before 8.30pm (for ANZ and Westpac), 11.30pm (for BNZ) and 10.00pm (for ASB), and your employees will receive the funds in their bank account on the same day. 
  • For all other banks, our process is currently staying the same. Please process your pay two business days before your desired pay date (e.g. Process on Wednesday for the pay to be in your employees' account on Friday). We are looking into what changes we might be able to make to improve your experience and will share more on this as soon as we can.

For customers on Auto Processing - there are no changes to the way the auto processing feature works at the moment. If this changes in the future we will let all our customers using this feature know. 

Bank fees

If you've linked your bank account to your Smartly website to pay your staff, your bank charges for the linking fee. 

ANZ: 36 cents per transaction. This will appear on your Smartly invoice and will be deducted alongside your standard Smartly fees. 

ASB: 36 cents per transaction. This will appear on your Smartly invoice and will be deducted alongside your standard Smartly fees. 

BNZ: A bank transaction charge of 36 cents per transaction applies. This will appear on your Smartly invoice and will be deducted alongside your standard Smartly fees.

Westpac: 30 cents per transaction. This is debited by Westpac on the day you process your payroll.

Pay Early (one of the smaller banks): A bank transaction charge of 36 cents per transaction applies. This will appear on your Smartly invoice and will be deducted alongside your standard Smartly fees.

Switching to full service

This is our fully automated service where payments are made to the staff and the IRD, and payday filing is completed on your behalf.
