FAQs

Why did Smartly increase the price of Payroll One?

Smartly is all about making payroll simple for Kiwi businesses, from providing top notch customer support to creating new features that make it even easier to run your payroll. In an inflationary environment it became difficult to hold the price as it was. As a result of continued rising costs, we've made the necessary decision to increase the monthly fee for Smartly's Payroll One plan.

We did however realise that we were able to offer more value to our customers in the form of access to more payroll features. So along with the price increase, you'll get some time saving features and functionality that we hope you'll find valuable. We'll also be helping you to learn how to use these features in our webinar series.

What's the difference between Payroll One and the new DIY Payroll plan?

Payroll One offered a more basic version of our available features. When we added all the additional features and functionality to the plan we also changed the name to DIY Payroll. DIY Payroll includes all our available payroll features and advanced functionality, including Labour Costing and Digital Timesheets. So it has everything you need and can grow with your business.

When will I see the change on my invoice?

From 1 July, our Payroll One plan price will change from our previous Payroll One pricing of $33 + $1.99 per employee per pay period to $40 + $2 per employee per pay period with a name change to DIY Payroll. The new monthly fee and plan name will appear on your July invoice which you’ll receive in early August. Don’t worry, you’ll still retain any existing discounts.

What if I don’t want to change plans?

While we had to increase prices, we saw an opportunity to also increase value by giving you access to new features. Because this is a big change, we also chose to change the name of the plan. With this new plan you'll have access to all our current and future payroll features and enhancements. If you aren’t interested in these new time-saving payroll features give our support team a call or email to chat.

What’s the difference between DIY Payroll and Managed Payroll?

Let’s start with what’s the same: whichever plan you choose, you’ll have access to Smartly’s full range of features including the employee app, timesheets, labour costing, Xero integration, automated payments and more. The difference is, when you choose DIY Payroll, you’re responsible for entering all of your payroll data into Smartly and checking that it’s correct. When you choose Managed Payroll, your dedicated account manager will work with you, and whatever systems you’re currently using, to make sure your data is entered correctly and payments are made on time.
